1. Placards go up in Kitchener ON demanding Justice for the Craigavon Two #JFTC2 On Oct. 22nd hree groups of two went in the downtown area and key points in the city posting placards demanding the immediate release of the Craigavon Two falsely imprisoned due to their political beliefs. Places that were targeted included bus stops and high traffic areas. By doing this people hope to raise awareness of this injustice as well demonstrate that they do not stand alone.

2. Rally to save out of the cold a success On Monday concerned citizens in Kitchener gathered to take a stand in defense of the out of the cold program and the right to decent housing fit for human beings. As the event started various people involved in municipal politics came over engaged us in discussion on these issues. After that people spoke about there experience with poverty and the need to keep up the pressure. The issue of only being political during elections was discussed as well as the need to create our own alternative.

After speeches people began marching and as we marched some people we passed showed support for the march. The march ended at the local polling booth with speeches and fireworks stressing that voting was not enough and the need to oppose the austerity agenda by all means available to us. A public meeting Tuesday at 7 at the Queen Street Commons was also announced so that the work to build the alternative and prevent homeless deaths this winter can be continued.

3. No to Canadian Participation in U.S.-Led Wars of Terror! No to Criminalization of Dissent! The October 25 demonstration in Ottawa condemned the government's cynical use of the killing of the soldier on October 22 at the War Memorial to push its agenda for war, racism and suppression of rights. Participants used the occasion to affirm that state terrorism is never a solution to any problem, that our security lies in our fight for the rights of all, and the necessity to fight for an anti-war government.

Speakers included Abdourahman Kahin of Muslim Presence, First Nations and environmental activist Ben Powless, trade union activist Hassan Husseini, and Anne-Marie Roy, President of the University of Ottawa Student Federation. Everyone rejected with contempt the Harper government's vigorous efforts to criminalize dissent, demonize those it deems "enemies," embroil Canada in U.S.-led wars of aggression, and impose its anti-social neo-liberal austerity agenda.
