Guerrilla Video |
This workshop will address the fundamentals of digital video shooting, uploading, editing, and sharing. Flexibility is key--not every camera will let you customize your lens, not every smartphone will have great resolution, and not every laptop available to you will have Final Cut Pro, so we'll skip the details and instead look at the basic steps for creating footage on-the-go. With some application, you'll be able to apply what you learn to your own workflow, creating professional and easy-to-watch videos. We will work with a variety of digital camera types, so feel free to bring your own. Facilitator: Matt Schwager, masters candidate in Experimental Digitial Media |
11:30-1:00 |
Media + Arts |
How can indie media connect with artists in meaningful, non-superficial ways? What kinds of interactions can be beneficial to all sides? This workshop will discuss strategies for journalists, reporters, photographers, radio hosts and bloggers who are interested in covering the arts. We will talk about the importance of cultural context and the artists’ positionality, and how to make your finished piece accessible to the public, useful for the artist, and a piece of contemporary history. Facilitator: Janice Lee, KW singer-songwriter, spoken word poet, storyteller, and community organizer |

Research |
This workshop presents the skills and techniques that investigative journalists and private-eyes use to do deep digging research on the Internet. It show people how to use Google in ways most people are unaware of and how to access the wealth of information on the Internet that Google can't find. Jammed packed from edge to edge, this session will be a chance for novice and expert researchers alike to pick up skills they can use every day. Facilitator: Tim Groves, Toronto-based investigative journalist and researcher |

Promotions |
You may have your event's organisation down to the themed desserts, but if no one shows up to your Anti-War demo because you didn't promote it, how are you going to win the revolution? This "hands-on" workshop will highlight aspects of effective event promotion including social media, mainstream engagement, and street level soap boxing. Facilitator: Dan Kellar has been a part of many event organization teams, some failed horribly, some were "successful", and some met or exceeded the goals laid out beforehand. |
